Our Academic Manuscript Diagnostic services help universities, research institutes, doctoral and early-career research programmes, academic publishers and other research organisations systematically understand the quality of the scholarly manuscripts they produce or develop.
At their core is our Academic Manuscript Diagnostic (AMD) methodology, which enables structured assessment across samples of published and/or ongoing manuscripts, helping institutions identify recurring strengths, weaknesses and development needs and translate these findings into more focused scholarly development.

From Manuscript Assessment to Institutional Insight→
When manuscripts are examined across a wider sample, institutions can move beyond isolated judgements about individual works and develop a broader picture of recurring scholarly strengths and development needs.
This can reveal differences across programmes, cohorts, publication streams or stages of manuscript development, helping organisations distinguish isolated difficulties from more persistent patterns and make better-informed decisions about research development, supervision, internal review and scholarly support.
From Diagnosis to Development
Our services are tailored to the scale, needs and research environment of each organisation and can combine three connected forms of support.
Through an Institutional Manuscript Quality Review, we assess a selected sample of published and/or ongoing manuscripts to identify recurring strengths, weaknesses and development priorities. Reviews can focus on a particular programme, cohort, publication stream or period, or provide a broader picture across an institution or research environment.
Findings can then inform a Tailored Scholarly Development Workshop, designed around patterns identified within the organisation’s own manuscript sample. We also offer a Core Scholarly Development Workshop as a standalone programme for institutions seeking to strengthen foundational capabilities in producing coherent and well-developed scholarly manuscripts without requiring a prior assessment.
For organisations pursuing longer-term development, a Scholarly Quality Partnership can support periodic reassessment, monitoring of recurring manuscript-quality patterns, development of research-support and review practices, targeted training, organisational learning and strategic strengthening of manuscript quality over time.

A Purpose-Built Diagnostic Environment
AMD is operationalised through the Analysis Typology Coder (ATC), our proprietary software environment for structured manuscript diagnosis. Its dedicated academic module translates our methodological framework into a systematic assessment process while accommodating differences in research design, manuscript type and stage of development.
ATC supports structured diagnosis, documented judgement and comparison across manuscripts while preserving the role of expert scholarly assessment. It is not an automated grading, proofreading or AI writing-evaluation tool; it is designed to identify how the different components of scholarly work function together and where development is most needed.
